The photo is of the first Christmas Day Mass, held in 1987, and demonstrated that the community was determined to keep the City from demolishing Sacred Heart Church. The mass was held outside because the City would not allow anyone inside and was moving to tear the church down.















CHRISTMAS DAY SCHEDULE

  • Historic Sacred Heart will be opened early for Peace and Reflection
  •  12:00 Noon Flag Raising by American Legion Post 41 Color Guard
  •  Presentation of Colors by Post 41 Color Guard
  • Christmas Mass begins, Monsignor Tony Sotelo and Deacon Estevan Wetzel 
  • Moment of Reflection for those who passed on since our last Mass
  • Roll Call of the Fallen from American Legion Post 41
  • Roll Call of Honor will be read by Luis Hernandez, Commander of Post 41, with ceremonial bell honors by Captain of Honor Guard, Henry Villalobos.
  • Report to the Community by Abe Arvizu, Jr., Chair of Braun-Sacred Heart Center, Inc.
  • Mass Concluded
  • Retirement of Colors by American Legion Post 41 Color Guard
  • Traditional Kissing of Baby Jesus
  • Rifle salute by American Legion Post 41 Color Guard

The Braun-Sacred Heart Center is pleased to announce that the annual coming together for Christmas Mass will take place at the regular time of 12:00 Noon on Christmas Day inside the old Sacred Heart Church.

This is a time for celebration, for getting together, and for honoring the memory of those who have passed on. It's through the help from community members and local businesses that Historic Sacred Heart is prepared for our gathering.  This year the Diocese of Phoenix has provided the required insurance and Sacred Heart parishioners have provided a tremendous amount of help in preparing the church for this year's mass.
